There is something on my hat by WeirdBugLady There is something on my hat by WeirdBugLady
Last year (May 2009), I took a class camping trip. For three weeks we traveled from eastern Texas all the way to Joshua Tree National Park in California. Along we way we stopped in Portal, Arizona. I knew they had vinegaroons there (one of my favorite animals), but I couldn't find any. I did, however, buy a hat with an embroidered vinegaroon on it. I wished I could have found a real vinegaroon to sit on it for a photo, but no such luck.

This year (August 2010) I took a trip to the Southwest Research Station in Portal, Arizona with my graduate adviser and an Earthwatch group. I found DOZENS of vinegaroons, much to my delight.

So I finally fulfilled the wish I've had for over a year... to have a real vinegaroon sitting on my vinegaroon hat.

Photo taken by a friend at the research station.

What a cool photo! It would be so neat to hold one (I haven't even seen one outside of photos).

Well, congratulations.
Vinegaroons are amazing members of an already amazing group of arthropods, and I frankly envy you.

Awesome! :) We have a lot of tailless whip scorpions around here, I haven't seen many vinegaroons tho'. :(

Alas! But I still enjoy all the scorpions and tarantulas. ;)
